Over time, any design becomes unusable and window replacement is required. In this case, the glass is replaced with new plastic. PVC constructions are cheaper, more reliable and more durable than wooden ones.
Why do I need to change windows
There are many cases in which it is necessary to replace windows with plastic ones:
- to increase sound insulation and energy saving;
- damaged glass or cracked glass;
- the design of the room has changed, the old frames do not fit into the new solution;
- in new buildings, when the developer installed budget windows that are not suitable in this climate.
Modern PVC structures are more airtight than wooden windows and provide additional features and comfort.
A variety of plastic window designs
From the whole variety of products on the market, the consumer needs to choose the right one for him. Varieties of windows in a wooden house can vary by type of structure:
- single;
- paired;
- separate.
Depending on the width of the opening, the type of window construction is selected. The larger the window, the greater heat loss will be observed in the room. This means that you will have to additionally insulate the building and increase heating costs.
In addition, plastic frames may vary in the number of glasses inserted into them. The smaller the amount used, the colder it will be.
Often the shape of the window depends on the architectural design of the building and the design decision. In the form of double-glazed windows can be: trapezoidal, standard, round, narrow, arched.
To make the right choice among the variety of products presented, you need to seek the help of professional consultants.
Advantages of PVC Structures over Wooden Windows
The advantages of plastic double-glazed windows include the following:
- Firstly, many companies provide a complete solution. You do not have to do anything yourself. A representative of a trade organization will come to your home, make accurate measurements, which will produce the design for you. After a short period of time, the products will be delivered home, where the craftsmen will dismantle the old window and install a new one. It will be possible to use the installed new frame after a day;
- secondly, plastic constructions are relatively inexpensive;
- thirdly, the noise level is significantly reduced;
- fourthly, the density of joints in a plastic window allows you to get high thermal insulation;
- Another advantage of the PVC construction is its functionality. You can easily lock the window sash in a horizontal or vertical position.
Work technology
Initially, replacing wooden windows with plastic involves the choice of the manufacturer. But before making a choice, you need to know some nuances:
- the designs of plastic frames can be of different colors, which allows you to choose the right shade. Please note that a white frame will be cheaper;
- The cost depends on the country of manufacture. However, it is difficult to find truly imported goods; most often, products manufactured under license are sold;
- a double-glazed window may consist of a different number of cameras. The more of them, the more expensive the design;
- the price is also affected by the accessories and the thickness of the glass;
- making a window will cost more if its shape is non-standard.
Most often, metering services are provided free of charge. If you need replacement of double-glazed windows in the amount of several units, then most likely the seller will offer you a discount. You can save if you install everything yourself.
Dismantling the old window
The first step in the installation of plastic double-glazed windows is the preparatory work. First of all, you need to dismantle the old window frame. To do this, pull out the frame structure from the loot. The next stage is the dismantling of the windowsill. You need to know that window sills are different: concrete - then they are smashed with a hammer and cut off with a grinder; metal, plastic and wood, using a chisel and a perforator, are taken out entirely. This is followed by the removal of ebbs. If the slopes are made of plastic or drywall, they must be removed. Then the remnants of the insulation are removed, the ends are protected from dirt and dust.
Look at your window opening. You may need to rebuild it using a concrete screed. If the edges are uneven, using putty, they need to be aligned.
Measurements must be done correctly.
Please note that when taking measurements, you need to take into account the size of the opening, its shape and the type of structure of the house. Most often, measurements are made by professionals, this is especially true if your windows have curly elements, a non-standard look or an arch shape.
It is easy to measure a simple rectangular window. However, if it is of a non-standard form, then problems may arise, which is why manufacturers offer the services of a measurer for free.
Install a new window
When measurements are made, the products are manufactured and delivered to the place, and the window opening is prepared, it is necessary to proceed directly to the installation of the plastic window. To do this, you have to stock up on the necessary tool:
- roulette;
- drill;
- a hammer;
- hammer drill;
- level;
- screwdriver;
- anchor bolts;
- pliers;
- self-tapping screws;
- wedges for struts;
- polyurethane foam;
- glue or sealant.
Installation of new double-glazed windows is carried out in several stages:
- Footrest. At the bottom of the window opening in the middle and along the edges of the frame, it is necessary to put bars that can be made of wood or plastic.
- Frame installation and securing. Pegs are driven in between the wall and the window, most often closer to the top of the frame. Applying the level, the horizontal position of the window is checked. Using a plumb line align it vertically.
- Fastening structures. First of all, they fix the lower part using anchors. After checking that everything is level, fix up and sides.
- Sash hanging. Having hung the sashes, you need to once again check the window position vertically and horizontally. Next, you need to foam the design. Do not forget that the foam, being in the open air, can very quickly lose its properties, so you should close it with the upper layer, which can be made of drywall, plastic or plaster.
- Window sill mounting. It is necessary to trim the windowsill from each edge so that it fits snugly under the frame. The gap under the windowsill is foamed or sealed with cement mortar.
- Slopes. In order to create a slope, such materials are used: plaster, drywall, plastic panel. Sheet material needs to be cut, aligned on the surface and fixed with foam. The edges are closed with a corner or treated with a profile. If the option of plaster is chosen, then the surface needs to be covered in several layers, while each of them must completely dry. The surface is ground and painted.
Having completed all the steps, you will get a design that will last you a long time, working without failures and repairs.
